About the Clownz
Clownz With Apple is the performance company of the Boyz With Apple artist collective. We are a non-binary and women led troupe specializing in immersive, site-specific, physical theatre—and, of course, clowning around. Internationally-based, Clownz With Apple’s process is highly collaborative, non-hierarchical, and emergent. This process is driven by our sense of child-like wonder and the spontaneous discoveries made by the company—the performers, designers, managers, and technicians playing and creating together.

We have some really exciting news to share:
Clownz With Apple is having our world premier at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2023! We are very fortunate to debut our show at theSpace Triplex, an award-winning venue renowned at the Festival for producing “emerging gems.” Our show, Purgatorio, is an original, devised physical theatre piece inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divina Commedia and developed at the Accademia Dell’Arte in Tuscany. Purgatorio follows an ensemble of troubled spirits dancing to salvation in Club Purgatorio, a surrealist techno dreamscape. The production explores desire, dependency, and divinity through ecstatic movement, inviting the audience to press where it hurts, live out their darkest fantasies—and then to dance it off after.
Also, we started a theatre company! Clownz With Apple is a theater company formed in 2023 by Frances Rippy, Naomi Friedman, and Fiona Bruckman as part of the Boyz With Apple Artist Collective. We are a non-binary and women led artist collective specializing in immersive, site-specific, physical theatre—and, of course, clowning around. Internationally-based, Clownz With Apple’s process is highly collaborative, non-hierarchical, and emergent. Clownz With Apple put together a cast of the best and the brightest young professional theatremakers from the Accademia Dell’Arte, Vassar College, the Commonwealth Theatre Center, the DePaul Theatre School, Carnegie Mellon University, and many other incredible programs.
To bring this show to Fringe, however, we need your help. In order to house, feed, transport, and compensate these incredible artists—not to mention pay for the show!—we must raise at least ￡32,827.96—or $40,310. Boyz With Apple is partnering with Fractured Atlas to be able to accept tax-deductible donations, making it even easier to donate! You can donate through Fractured Atlas by check or credit card.
This show means so much to the whole company, and it would be a dream come true to perform at the world’s largest international performing arts festival. Participating in the Fringe would be an incredible professional opportunity for all the young artists involved and any support you can give to the production would be directly supporting our artistic development.

Mission Statement
Clownz With Apple specializes in site-specific, interactive, and devised theatre.
We are founded on the following principles:

Ours is a materialist theatre, one which is concerned with the materiality of the objects we use, of the material conditions of the artists/workers employed in its production, and of the material reality of the community it serves. We are especially in tune with the material needs of the community we serve and strive to couple our theatre with substantive community action whenever possible.

Our materialist concerns extend most especially and crucially to the theatre’s role in the global ecosystem and will do everything in our power to create frugally, to use found objects, and to restrict waste. We take up this task joyfully, allowing a sustainable framework to be a source of creativity and imagination.

The privilege and responsibility of creation belongs equally to every member of the company, including but not limited to designers, technicians, actors, dramaturges, etc.

Ours is a theatre of metaphor, of play, of joy, of laughter, of light, and of sorrow.

Ours is a theatre of fleshiness, of color, of immediacy, of heat.
